DNS Config To Point To Internally Hosted Domain

I have a sub domain that I am hosting a site for, but I want to be able to view the site from within our network by using the domain name as opposed to the private IP address of our web server. I assumed I would create a new DNS host record in the forward lookup zone, but it has not worked thus far. Here is my setup:
Win 2k3 web server running IIS 6.0
Win 2k DNS server
The subdomain is a different domain name than that of our main domain name, i.e., ou domain is local.quikey.com, but the pointer I want created would be for subdomain.newdomain.com. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Here are 2 things to verify:
1. Add the correct A record for the domain DNS record pointing to the server IP address.
2. Add the domain/subdomain to the host header of the website in IIS Manager. Note that this is required if you host multiple websites on the same IP address. Otherwise, the IIS server will accept any host header value if set that way.
That should work. You can point as many domain and subdomain you want to the same website if the two above are setup. Also check this article on our website
