A recent online auction has resulted in the major sale of a generic domain name Moniker Marketplace reports today.
The San Francisco 2007 GeoDomain Expo, which hosted the sale, passed on Perth.com to an as yet unknown party for a price of $200,000 it has been revealed.
With cities of Perth located in Australia Scotland and Canada as well as New York and North Dakota in the United States there will no doubt be a number of opportunities available for the site including business and tourism.
The geo-specific generic domain name was sold alongside a number of other sites, such as Kazakhstan.net and Roads.us, with bidders able to make their offers online and by telephone.
Monte Cahn, co-founder and chief executive of Moniker, said: "The real estate market might not be strong in the US at the moment, but the domain name industry, virtual real estate, is steadily on the rise and stronger than ever."
