Firefox 3 Alpha 1 Released - Gran Paradiso & Gecko

Firefox 3.0 Alpha 1 was released for testing earlier this week. The project for Firefox 3.0 is code named Gran Paradiso. The general release of Firefox is still 2.0. The Gecko 1.9 search engine will have many changes including changes to the Document Object Model (DOM).

Some of the key changes are: - Windows 95, Windows 98 and Windows ME are no longer supported platforms
- OS X 10.2 is no longer supported, and OS X 10.3.9 or higher is recommended
- Cairo is now being used as the default graphics library, affecting all graphic and text rendering
- Cocoa Widgets are now used in OS X builds
- Changes to how DOM events are dispatched
- Changes to how <object> elements are loaded
- Changes to how the web pages are rendered
