If you were a regular user of the Open Relay Database (ORDB.org) or configured it as a DNS Blacklist for the SMTP server, it is time to remove it from your usage. This service was shutdown recently after a press release on December 18, 2006. The site used to provide a list of all email servers that were set to relay emails without authenticating the source (hence called "open relay"). Open relay email servers were targeted by spammers because they could send huge volumes of emails using these servers.
The Open Relay Database was a free service provided by a handful of Danish volunteers, and they feel that spam has moved ahead from the open relay's tactics.

If you have configured your email server to check against the Open Relay Database, it is time to remove it from the server lists for DNS Blacklist. For example, if you are using email server software from MailEnable, it will mark all external messages as spam (marking them as false positives) because it cannot connect to the Open Relay database. Removing the Open Relay Database was the solution.
